During World War II, Northwestern offered its facilities for use by the War Department. Actual planning for a new Social Science Complex to be built on the Evanston campus of Northwestern University began in 1967. The planning involved not only designing a building to accommodate the programs that it would house but also selecting the programs to fit the building.
